Newport Mystery Tower, Rhode Island

The Newport Mystery Tower is a three-story stone structure that stands in Newport, Rhode Island. There are numerous peculiarities to its construction, strange markings and mysteries concerning who exactly built it. There is no record of its construction, the tower seeming to have been there already when colonists first arrived. Speculation about its builders runs to the Norse, the Swedes and even the Chinese. It is built of stone mortared with a mixture of crushed seashells, sand and water.

Carbon-14 dating produced possible dates of construction as early as 1450 which might tie it to stories of Prince Henry Sinclair’s trip to the New World and to the Westford Knight.
